Counselling

I have been a counsellor for over thirty years. I initially trained with what, in the United Kingdom, was known as the National Marriage Guidance Council. For many years I continued to counsel for the national charity now called Relate. Although originally my work specialised in couple counselling, more recently I have been working with couples, individuals and families.
Much of my counselling has been based on cognitive behaviour therapy, but my training also included short term solution focused work. I am available to counsel anyone with any area of concern but the majority of my work is consideration of relationship issues.
Although it is normal to experience counselling by a series of face to face sessions, it is possible to establish some form of rapport with new clients by means of either the telephone or e-mail / Internet. I have had experience of telephone counselling, in particular with the emphasis on short term solution focused support.

For those of you still slightly uncertain about the merits of counselling, I would recommend that you look upon it in terms of a mirror being a metaphor for the counselling process. The therapist or counsellor has been trained to hold up the mirror for you to see yourself. Sometimes held at angles which perhaps you have not seen for a while; sometimes closely for detailed inspection and sometimes held further away for a wider reflection. But the chances are where ever the mirror is held, you will be able to see yourself in a new light, and you will be able to decide for yourself, the changes that you may wish to make in your life.
I am happy for you to contact me by telephone or e-mail to discuss the possibility and appropriateness of counselling. If you did not wish to see me, I have a number of colleagues I would be very pleased to recommend. To contact me paul.vittle@lifecoachingplus.co.uk
